Recently, CCTV’s Economic 30 aired an episode titled The ‘Chinese Innovation’ Behind Small Packages, reporting on the technological capabilities and practices of Cainiao Logistics Technology.

During the interview, reporters visited a cross-border consolidation warehouse in Xiaoshan, Hangzhou, where over 5 million Chinese products are shipped to 52 different countries and regions every day, showcasing Cainiao’s strong cross-border parcel processing capabilities. Chen Taotao, General Manager of Automation at Cainiao Logistics Technology, explained that Cainiao has always insisted on improving efficiency through continuous technological investment. In the cross-border consolidation warehouse “integrated with the software and hardware”, software systems are responsible for scheduling, while hardware devices handle operations.

The software capability referred to is Cainiao’s “Intelligent Consolidation” technology. When overseas consumers shop at different stores using the same address, after intelligent consolidation, packages from different merchants are packaged into one parcel after collection, and subsequently delivered through mainline, destination country, and last-mile distribution, ultimately reaching overseas consumers.

Since the launch of this service until the beginning of this year, 500 million consumers worldwide have enjoyed the efficient delivery services brought by Cainiao’s intelligent consolidation.

In the field of innovative research and development of logistics equipment, Cainiao is also making breakthroughs.

In Economic 30, Cainiao’s independently developed four-directional shuttle tray made its debut. It can carry a maximum load of 1.5 tons and can move in six directions: front, rear, left, right, up, and down, through cooperation with lifting vehicles. More like a robot than just a shuttle, it can achieve multi-vehicle coordination through system scheduling. This robot can shuttle freely in large-scale automated warehouses with dense storage, transporting goods and greatly improving sorting efficiency.
